CAli*MA Art Gallery • Reham Maher (Egypt)
Egyptian artist Reham Maher was born in Cairo, where she still lives. She started painting in childhood, drawing inspiration from daily life and traditional folklore. When Reham reached the study age, she became interested in studying the history and arts of ancient civilisations. Her work in the restoration of antiquities at Islamic and Coptic archaeological sites influenced her artistic style later on.
Artist Reham Maher’s paintings embody a philosophical vision drawn from heritage, art history and the symbols of ancient civilisations. Her artworks are based on imagination mixed with history, combining colour and line with fabric, including storytelling and structural systems in a contemporary style.
Reham’s works achieve the concept of duality between the spiritual presence represented by the role of women in the present and her sacred status throughout different eras. She deals with symbols inspired by sacred drawings, such as the Tree of Life, which symbolises eternity and permanence.
Although the historical and aesthetic aspects combined with scientific research were the main source for Reham Maher's artworks, the artist is interested in portraying social and political events, especially in depicting the victims of wars to give their souls the quality of immortality.
